Tourism
1. Szent Miklós Watermill and Treadmill
A truly unique experience is a visit to the 14th-century watermill, which is a listed building and next to which you can see Europe’s only known human-powered treadmill. In the mill, visitors can learn about the local history of grain milling, the history of the patterns on the homemade flour sacks, and try out the treadmill. The mill can be visited individually, but viewing is subject to registration. Guided tours are provided.
2. Busó Udvar- Busó Courtyard
A traditional interactive exhibition presenting the unique Busó culture and customs characteristic of Mohács. Mohács is proud of its six-day winter-chasing folk custom, the Busójárás, which was declared an intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2009.
The Busóudvar complex, created in the city center, aims to give visitors the opportunity to learn about this centuries-old carnival custom and get a taste of its unique atmosphere every day of the year. A 400-square-meter, U-shaped house lined with arcades is home to the exhibition, which is the home of living tradition.
It is a creative workshop where ancient folk customs are cultivated and the heritage of folk crafts is preserved. It is a community space where the important treasures of our spiritual heritage are not only preserved but also transformed into an experience that can be enjoyed every day. The building displays busó costumes and props used by tradition keepers, as well as a furnished Sokac house, and the atmosphere is enhanced by a light and sound show reminiscent of the busók’s bonfire.
Visitors can also gain insight into the activities of local craftsmen associated with the event in the four demonstration workshops of the Busóudvar. A restaurant and café complete the services on offer.
3. Mohács National Memorial
The memorial commemorates the events and victims of the Battle of Mohács in 1526. The exhibition presents the history of the battle, artifacts excavated from the graves, period clothing and weapons, and memorial stones commemorate the fallen. Guided tours are available at the memorial site, and viewing the exhibition takes about an hour. The memorial site is currently closed for reconstruction and will reopen in 2026.
4. Dorottya Kanizsai Museum
A local history exhibition that can be viewed in just under 40 minutes, open all year round, and can be visited individually or in groups. The exhibition showcases the cultural diversity and folklore of Mohács.
